Résumé
This study has been conducted to evaluate the effects of different forestry practices on the productivity and erodibility of the soils developed from argilite and sandstone in Basque Country (N. Spain). A total of 59 Pinus radiata stands at different explotation levels -mature forest, recent whole-tree harvested, land preparation- were selected. The soils where harvesting and/or ploughing were practiced were subjected to varying degrees of decreases in organic matter, nitrogen, sulfur and calcium pools. As a consequence of the loss of surface organic matter, the soils exhibited a significant increase in their erodibility. This effect was specially high in the land where whole-tree (also the root) removing and ploughing were practiced.
