This paper analyses the very distinct, and almost contraposed manner, the episode of Gothic supremacy in Spain (one of the most characteristic themes of the Castillian (and Spanish?) "imaginaire" in modern times was interpreted by two of the great authors of baroque historiography, the jesuits Juan de Mariana and José de Moret.
