Sustainable development goals

Abstract

In this paper, I will deal with the verbal form diago, which appears in one of Garibay’s proverbs. Its main objective is to clarify, through an exhaustive philological-linguistic analysis of the proverb and its two translations, the exact meaning of the verbal form and its relationship with the homograph diago (ditransitive auxiliary equivalent to the standard dio). Consequently, and by means of the ancient mechanics of the Basque verbal morphology, a relationship is established with the verb dio ‘(s)he says’, as well as new etymologies are proposed for other members of its lexical family.
