Résumé

From an interdisciplinary scope, this study aims to identify the ideological frameworks that underlied the concept of the modernization of Basque music in Francisco Gascue’s (1848-1920) thinking. His ideal was highly influenced by his political convictions and a progressist, as well as patriotic, mentality. The ideological connections between his works on engineering, politics and music will be highlighted.
