Résumé

The knowledge about the perception and the social representations of the environmental problems, as well as about the attitudes and disposition of the citizenship to the participation in the strategies orientated to its mitigation, has a determinant role in the joint of institutional programs, policies of communication and other strategies orientated to the care and protection of the environment. This work departs from a survey realized to a representative sample of the population of Urdaibai in order to analyze different aspects of the public perception about the environmental problems and tensions, in close relation with the informative consumption and with the attention given to these questions by the mass media. The principal results indicate that the population of Urdaibai has a significant ecological conscience and is especially worried about the environmental problems. Simultaneously, presents attitudes and diverse perceptions about the way of confronting them, in spite of the fact that it does not know the principal mechanisms of participation and claims for a more information and attention from of the mass media.
