Diagnóstico y pronóstico paisajístico de la Reserva de la Biosfera de Urdaibai

Abstract

This paper presents the objectives, methodology and general results of a research project of UNESCO Chair on “Sustainable Development and Environmental Education” (Code UNESCO 04/02). The purposes have been the analysis and assessment of several parameters as quality, anthropogenic effect and landscape fragility in the different visual spaces of the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai. With this aim a methodology has been developed that consists on the delimitation of different visual catchments, their characterization in physical, visual and structural attributes that afterwards have been turned in landscape parameters dealt with geographical information technologies. The result has been a varied landscape diagnostic according to the nowadays situation, the prognostic and the probable happening of land uses changes and the admittance capacity of each visual space that conforms Urdaibai. For the sustainability of Urdaibai the last scope of this research project has been the suggestion of some guidelines to try to keep the situation, when a positive balance, or improve the landscape diagnosis in case of not.
