Zusammenfassung
The main objective of the present work is the qualitative identification of the most common brominated flame retardants (BFRs) in plastic derived from the treatment of WEEE (Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment) (Directive 2002/96/EC). The obtained results will be applied for the automatic discrimination of plastics from these equipments in which these additives are found, in order to obtain recycled material regarding the RoHS (Restriction of certain hazardous substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive (Directive 2002/95/EC). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy with attenuated total reflectance (ATR) equipment has been used to make qualitative analysis. We have found the characteristic absorption bands of these additives. With the obtained results we have assigned specific absorption bands for the different BFRs that allow us their recognition. These bands are not masked by the polymer bands and by the ones of other additives and other charges employed in the manufacture of the plastic.
