Résumé

The recent sedimentary record of the Nalón estuary (Asturias) is characterized by a relevant anthropogenic imprint, deri- ved from the historical extraction of coal and mercury, particularly since 1850 (García-Ordiales et al., 2017; 2018; 2020). Nevertheless, the microfaunal response to environmental stress provoked by the anthropic pollution in this estuary remains unstudied. This work focuses on the multidisciplinary analysis (benthic foraminifera, sedimentology, geochemistry and envi- ronmental magnetism) of two 50-cm long intertidal cores drilled in the middle estuary that were dated by short-lived radioi- sotopes. The multidisciplinary study of its sedimentary record and the establishment of an accurate chronology have allowed a reconstruction of the environmental transformation of the estuary during the last 200 years as a consequence of the mining activity in its watershed.
