Résumé

As the research shows, the term “community development” has been extensively analysed, particularly in terms of the concepts that constitute it (development and community). Advancing in this analysis, this study aims to systematise the epistemological bases of community development. The aim is to suggest cornerstones that can contribute to the development of the theory and practice of this discipline and, by exploring key theoretical aspects, to assess its relevance as a basic subject in Social Education degree studies. To this end, after a systematic study of research in the field, a brief historical review is made from the origins of community development to the present day, discussing how and why it emerged, collecting conceptual proposals and analysing the sciences that nourish and shape this concept. The theoretical analysis of the study highlights both the social praxis of community development and its educational nature in a social context, concluding that this is a discipline with a well-defined field of action, work and intervention processes, with its own conceptual and methodological frameworks that justify its relevance and inclusion in the Social Education degree.
