Résumé

Since its emergence in the 30s of the nineteenth century, the mutual association has been one of the mechanisms of solidarity and reciprocity most remarkable of contemporary Spain. This paper explores its evolution until the arrival of the Franco regime, and deepens, giving a local dimension, in the city of Vitoria and the province of Alava. The result is a transit, mutualism in Spain, rich in nuances and evolving and refining constantly, which can not be understood without taking into account factors such as state intervention in matters of welfare, and the international context.
