Zusammenfassung
Nowadays, many western speakers of varieties of the Basque language use only one affricate sound, over all, women use “tz” and men “tx”. The purpose of this article is to research the influence of the sex of young speakers from Igorre on the acoustic features of laminoalveolar affricates, that is to say, to investigate if the phonetic characteristics of the types of affricates those speakers use depend on their sex. In order to do so, six recordings have been used. All the speakers in our research are from Igorre, three young women and three young men, all born between 1990 and 1992. We have also used six words and repeated them twice for our research. In each affricate sound ten aspects have been measured: complete duration, duration of the occlusive, duration of the fricative, complete energy, occlusive energy, fricative energy, gravity centre, deviation, asymmetry and kurtosis. Finally, we have used two different techniques to classify the speakers: group analysis and a multidimensional scale.
