Résumé

The purpose of this study was to use TMG as a tool to evaluate mechanical properties of knee musclulature, and detect response differences between vastus medialis (VM), rectus femoris (RF), vastus lateralis (VL) and biceps femoris (BF) in high performance female volleyball players. We assessed 63 women of 6 Women Super-League Spanish teams. All participants presented more elevated values on the muscle speed response (Vrn) in VL and VM than RF and BF. Being greater the difference compared to BF due to the specific position of the player. However, setters, middle blockers and outside hitters and, in lesser extent, liberos are the players who have greater muscular imbalances in regard to the speed response of extensor (VM, RF and VM) and flexor musculature (BF) of the knee joint. On the other hand, opposite hitters have a higher functional balance in the lower body musculature. Finally, no statistically significant differences were found between specific positions, but we obtained data that suggest that physical and technical requirements are different depending on the position. Those different requirements could have repercussions in the risk of injury, and in the individualized planning of preventive and compensation work.
