Zusammenfassung

This paper presents some experiments for improving the Intelligent Learning Environment (ILE) field with developments in the area of Natural Language Processing (NLP). We have developed the Evalia system, which generates summaries of NL texts written in Basque, with the goal of helping teachers in the student evaluation task, through a Web-oriented learning environment. The student will be asked to write an open composition about a learned subject and the system will summarize it taking into account the main topics to be treated. In this way, both teacher and student can observe whether the important concepts are included or missing, and how have they been treated. The system will automatically produce a shorter version of the text while retaining the main points of the original. At the moment our approach focuses only on surface NLP techniques.
