Résumé

In our paper we highlight the relevance of the study of translation as a central element in the development of culture. We will consider the reception of German philosophy in Franco's Spain (Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, Marx, and other authors). Then, we will look back at the history of the reception of German philosophy in Spain, with special attention to an author, Immanuel Kant. We will make a historic journey from the early nineteenth century, with the Inquisition still in force, through the First Republic, the Silver Age, and reaching the starting point, the years of Franco's censorship. After checking the existence of various types of censorship, we will advocate for an extension of the meaning of this concept following Bourdieu. Finally, we will insist on the contribution that translation studies can make for the analysis of cultural development and we also will point out the need for a self-reflexive stance that would create space for critical translation studies.
