Zusammenfassung

The story of Bilbao in the 19th century hinges on two revolutions, one liberal, the other industrial. The author provides as assessment of the historical output of the era, laying due emphasis on the appearance and consolidation of an historiography of the city, with Bilbao as historiographical object and category. Finally he suggests some possible lines of research.
