Zusammenfassung

The basic premise for this work was that television conveys values and constitutes one of the forces for socialization at play during childhood and adolescence. The aim of the study was to deter- mine the values perceived by subjects in their favorite television characters in a sample group of 1238 adolescents from different cultural contexts. It also aimed to identify any possible differences between said cultural contexts. The total sample group was made up by: three Spanish sub-groups, four Latin American sub-groups and one Irish sub-group. Information regarding perceived values was gathered using the Val.Tv 0.2 questionnaire. In relation to the results, in general, the values most commonly perceived by adolescents were self-management and benevolence. As regards con- textual differences, although significant differences were observed in all values, in no case were they particularly notable. However, for hedonism and achievement, no significant differences were found at all between the different contexts. The most relevant differences were found in the values of con- formity, tradition, benevolence and universalism. We can conclude that, in addition to the relevance of these results for educational intervention, the measurement instrument used may also constitute an adequate and motivating tool for working on values with adolescents
