Zusammenfassung

Being the Mendizabal family one of the most important artists in the sculptural world of the 18th century in the Basque Country, it was most necessary to establish the biographical and style aspects. They work in the last years of the Baroque and the most of the Neoclassic. This work, having great quality, will be greatly demanded. The importance of the oldest of the Mendizabal brothers, Hilario, is outlined here for the first time. Juan Bautista I shows a great technical perfection while his son, Juan Bautista II, works in the Neoclassic period, producing works of great beauty as well as other works which are nearer to the expressive baroque.
