Zusammenfassung

This article describes the experiences that were gained in a practical project developed between the Historical Ecclesiastical Archive (AHEB/BEHA) and the University of the Basque Country. The project aimed to teach students using primary sources from the AHEB/BEHA, working on issues such as population density and other demographic concepts. For this purpose, a number of reproductions of historical documents were selected from the Archive and presented during the lectures, analyzing their structure, content and potential use in historical investigation. The university lecturer explained the general setting and the main demographic concepts applied to the Ancient Régime period. Particularly, the practical work highlighted to what extent different sources may serve as basis for historical science. Simultaneously, the importance of archives as an inevitable source for historical research was highlighted. AHEB/BEHA plays an important role by providing historical documents and series to study demography and social history for the preindustrial era in Bizkaia.
